LAYED

1. Why is LAYED opened in ‘demo’ mode?

Check that:

the appropriate dongle driver has been installed
the dongle is inserted or a license is available from server
the license file (esy.lic) is in the correct directory (ESY root)

Some systems will lose connection to the dongle on system hibernation. In this case the user must re-launch the application.

2. What do I do when LAYED database files are locked?

Access to library files may be locked by another user or after a system crash during save.

If edit access to a group is denied and no other users are accessing the library, unlock using the DBXMAN (select group to edit, then Edit-> unlock write protected groups)

If the complete library is locked either:

use DBXMAN (DBX File -> unlock DBX which will prompt for the library to be unlocked), or
use the tool dbxunloc in a terminal window

3. How do I reduce LAYED database file sizes?

During database development, LAYED retains, by default, three versions of the data, the current and the two previous. Earlier database versions may be purged using the DBXMAN facility (DBX File -> Purge DBX) or the tool dbxpurge in a terminal window.

Alternatively, if the previous versions are to be retained, but unused blocks are to be removed, use the database copy tool:

dbxcopy

4. How do I access LAYED utility tools?

Tools (utilities) are provided for access to the LAYED database and for format conversion. These may be run in a terminal window, may be run as a line entry in a batch file, or in many cases accessed from DBXMAN.

5. How do I set up a standardized working environment?

Establishing a working environment may be done using initialization files in command language format. In addition, global variables and settings may be established in the configuration file. This file may be pointed to using a system environmental variable. Examples of these files may be obtained from Matricus Inc.

6. Why are mouse drag functions invoked when not intended?

Configuration file variables may be defined to establish the drag profile and thus accommodate the different characteristics that people use. A reasonable set-up to use as a start point is:

dragStartTime = 200
dragStartDistance = 2

7. How do I stop dense databases taking such a long time to display?

The minimum size of drawn item (in pixels) may be defined so that drawing speed will increase. The command SLIMSIZE min. object size. A value of between 3 and 5 is usually effective without loss of data at design entry. The escape key can be used at any time to abort redrawing large databases.

8. How do I enter data on Datatypes?

LAYED allows entry on datatypes as well as design layers and these are recognized at all stages of design entry, verification, and format conversion. Where data entry requires that different layer/datatype combinations are required for different entities, it is often more convenient to establish a toolbar that defines the appropriate combination. An example of such a toolbar is available from Matricus Inc. on request.

9. How can I increment bus text indices?

There are two approaches. One is to use a command file into which the user may respond with text base, bracket type, numerical range, etc. An example of such a procedure is available from Matricus Inc.

Another approach is to use the IDTEXTDLG command (or edit -> change -> text attributes). Any existing text string defined (as a result of a sequence of text entries) may be incremented or decremented using the arrow buttons to the right of the string entry box. Only the last numerical component of any string will be incremented or decremented.
