LAYTOOLS libraries are the building blocks of primitive Boolean, combinatorial, and memory functions that are required by digital designers. These pre-developed blocks or cells have common features which allow them to be abutted without restriction as well as interconnected and are referred to as a standard cell library.

Each standard cell library is specifically designed to interface with LAYPAR and is available for standard technologies at various foundries (0.35um, 0.25um and 0.18um). Custom-built libraries may also be generated. The data includes not only the layout databases and schematic libraries (SPE), but also the timing information.
